TREE DATA: Pitch pine trees are reported to be hardy, and are resistant to fire and injury. Size is reported to vary from small and scrubby in the northern parts of its range, to medium-sized trees with heights of 50 to 60 feet (15 to 18 m), and trunk diameters of 12 to 24 inches (30 to 60 cm).

SAPWOOD COLOUR: The sapwood is nearly white to yellowish, orange-white, or pale yellow. The width is variable.

HEARTWOOD COLOUR: The clearly demarcated heartwood has various shades of yellow and orange to reddish brown or light brown.

COMMON USES: Fibreboard, Hardboards, Particleboard, Railroad ties, Veneer, Plywood, Pulp/Paper products, Structural plywood, etc.
